MAUFECHI SET TO OPEN MULTIMILLION NAIRA FASHION ACADEMY

Spread the love

Maureen Onigbanjo fashion designer of many years is finally set to open her fashion academy in Ikeja(Lagos). The amiable and very talented designer has over the years garnered many prestigious accolades for her brilliance, including the Iya Oge Fashion Award 1986, Afprint Designer of the Year 1985 and Silverbird Award 2003, amongst others. She now has added an academy to her formidable achievements which is inside Maufechi House, a five storey edifice which also contains a large factory, a sprawling show room and offices.

According to Maureen Onigbanjo, setting up a formal fashion school was born out of necessity. “It had actually been at the back of my mind for a very long time. Over the years, I had always had very short workshop for some of my clients who would want to know how they could make this or that. A lot of people wanted to train under me, but it was difficult to find the time. I realized that there were actually a lot of people, especially women interested in doing this. I was not in this property then and it was difficult making time to teach people as well as running the business. But I had always kept the idea in mind. So, anyway, it became more of a reality about three, four years ago when I decided I really had to do this, start a formal school, especially since by then I had the space to do it properly”.

The school will be kicking off in September and will be offering very comprehensive and wide range tutoring. The full year programme offers subjects like fashion journalism, evolution and history of fashion, English & French, pattern drawing, fashion marketing, costume design, color theory etc.
