These days, more and more celebrity couples find it to have a second baby after the first one. There are also those who have only 2 and can’t have more than that. This can be emotionally devastating for women who go through this experience and their partners. Several couples these days have to wait for longer years before arrival of a new baby and this is usually frustrating, considering the fact that having the first child was much easier and would never have envisaged this problem. . For many women, their desire for more children is overwhelming. Their frustration with not being able to have more children is often mixed with feelings of guilt, despair and obsession. This situation is known as Secondary Infertility, which is getting more common these days. It takes most people by utter surprise. Reason? Those who have easily conceived, carried, and delivered a baby suddenly find themselves wondering about their fertility. In this report, City People Fashion Editor, BOLA AKINBOADE spoke to Dr Abayomi Ajayi of Nordica Fertility Centre, Lagos who gave an overview on this fertility issue and the causes.

Secondary Infertility is defined as the inability to become pregnant, or to carry a pregnancy to term, following the birth of one or more biological children. Especially when the birth of the first child does not involve any assisted reproductive technology or fertility medications. Infertility is defined as a disease or condition of the reproductive system often diagnosed after a couple has had one year of unprotected, well-timed intercourse, or if the woman has suffered from multiple miscarriages. This can be caused as a result of problems in both partners.

Some major scientific causes of Secondary Infertility are discussed below.

The major cause is age, the older you get, the harder it is to get pregnant, and if you delay, it makes it even harder. Fertility begins to decline when a woman reaches her mid-30s, and rapidly declines after her late 30s. As a woman ages, her ovaries produce fewer eggs. In addition, the quality of the eggs is poorer than those of younger women. Older women have a higher risk for eggs with chromosomal abnormalities, which increase the risk for miscarriage and birth defects. Older women are also more likely to have health problems that may interfere with fertility
For the men too, age-related sperm changes in men are not abrupt, but are a gradual process. Aging can adversely affect sperm count and sperm mobility (the sperm's ability to swim quickly and move in a straight line). The genetic quality of sperm declines as a man ages

Low sperm in the man will lead to inability of conceiving. A sperm count of less than 20 million/mL is considered low sperm. Azoospermia refers to the complete absence of sperm cells in the ejaculate, and accounts for 10 - 15% of cases of male infertility. Partial obstruction anywhere in the long passages through which sperm pass can reduce sperm counts. Sperm count varies widely over time.

Endometriosis is a woman’s condition in which cells that line the uterus grow in areas outside of the uterus, such as the ovaries. The condition can interfere with a woman's ability to become pregnant. It is a noncancerous condition in which cells that normally line the uterus (endometrium) also grow on other areas of the body, causing pain and irregular bleeding. Endometrial cysts may cause infertility in several ways: If implants occur in the fallopian tubes, they may block the egg's passage; Implants that occur in the ovaries prevent the release of the egg; Severe endometriosis can eventually form rigid webs of scar tissue (adhesions) between the uterus, ovaries, and fallopian tubes, thereby preventing the transfer of the egg to the tube.

Pelvic Inflammatory Disease or other conditions that can cause scarring and blocking of the fallopian tubes can lead to inability of the woman to be able to conceive. Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) is a major cause of female infertility worldwide. PID comprises a variety of infections caused by different bacteria that affect the reproductive organs, appendix, and parts of the intestine that lie in the pelvic area. The sites of infection most often implicated in infertility are in the fallopian tubes and the severity of the infection, not the number of the infections, appears to pose the greatest risk for infertility.

Women with a history of early menopause may be at a higher risk. Premature ovarian failure is the early depletion of follicles before age 40, which, in most cases, leads to premature menopause. It is usually preceded by irregular periods, which might continue for years. In this condition, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) levels are elevated, as they are during perimenopause. Premature ovarian failure is a significant cause of infertility, and women who have this condition have only a 5 - 10% chance to conceive without fertility treatments.

Benign fibroid tumors in the uterus are extremely common in women in their 30s. Large fibroids may cause infertility impairing the uterine lining, by blocking the fallopian tube, or by distorting the shape of the uterine cavity or altering the position of the cervix

Sperm motility is the sperm's ability to move. If movement is slow, not in a straight line, or both, the sperm have difficulty invading the cervical mucus or penetrating the hard outer shell of the egg. If 60% or more of sperm have normal motility, the sperm is at least average in quality. If less than 40% of sperm are able to move in a straight line, the condition is considered abnormal. Sperm that moves sluggishly may have genetic or other defects that render them incapable of fertilizing the egg. Poor sperm motility may be associated with DNA fragmentation and may increase the risk for passing on genetic diseases.

As you grow older, chances of Sexually transmitted disease increases. Repeated Chlamydia trachomatis or gonorrhea infections are the sexually transmitted diseases most often associated with male infertility. Such infections can cause scarring and block sperm passage. Human papilloma viruses, the cause of genital warts, may also impair sperm function. Chlamydia is also the no 1 cause of infertility in women too.

Being overweight or obese (fat levels that are 10 - 15% above normal) can contribute to infertility in various ways. Obesity is also associated with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), an endocrinologic disorder that can cause infertility. While being underweight, that is, body fat levels 10 - 15% below normal can completely shut down the reproductive process. Women at risk include: Women with eating disorders, such as anorexia or bulimia. Women on very low-calorie or restrictive diets are at risk, especially if their periods are irregular. Strict vegetarians might have difficulties if they lack important nutrients, such as vitamin B12, zinc, iron, and folic acid.

Exposure to environmental hazards (such as herbicides, pesticides, and industrial solvents) may affect fertility both in the men and women. Estrogen-like hormone-disrupting chemicals are of particular concern for infertility in men and for effects on offspring of women. Phthalates, chemicals used to soften plastics, are under particular scrutiny because they may disrupt hormones.

Neurotransmitters (chemical messengers) act in the hypothalamus gland, which controls both reproductive and stress hormones. Severely elevated levels of stress hormone can, in fact, shut down menstruation in women.

For women younger than 35, if there are no other problems, they're having normal menstrual function, haven't used contraception for a year and still can't conceive, that's when it's considered secondary infertility. In women older than 35, it happens if you have no other problems, have normal menstrual function, have gone 6 months without contraception and haven't conceived.

Doctors use the same treatments for secondary infertility as they would for patients who have trouble conceiving a first child. Generally, you start with a work-up, then fertility drugs. If those don't work, they 'll try artificial insemination and then in vitro fertilization, which is the most effective and last treatment option.

More and more super single babes in Lagos and other cosmopolitan cities in Nigeria are choosing to live a single life, and shunning marriage. This set of ladies are not interested in settling down with a man they will call their husband as they have tagged themselves ‘Single by Choice’, with no strings attached. These set of women are in their 30s, attractive, assertive and financially secure, independent, and capable of taking care of themselves without any assistance from any man.
This is now the new trend among most super single ladies, especially the Island Big Babes. They live large in posh apartment and have everything that money can buy to make their lives comfortable. Though this new decision has continued to raise eyebrows among families and friends who believe in marriage institution, most of them are not even bothered. For most of these ladies, they arrived at this decision because of different reasons.
To a large extent, heartbreaks and disappointment in relationships have been responsible for why most of these ladies are shunning marriage and choosing to remain single. They have suffered series of heartbreaks in the hands of men and found it difficult to fall in love with any man again. The harsh economic condition is another reason why some of them are shunning marriage, as it has become more difficult for most of them to find their desired husband and most of the men that can match their status are still hustling and struggling and marriage. And after waiting for so long and cant find man, and the fact that time is against them, marriage doesn’t seem a priority for them again. They begin to feel they can enjoy a happy and fulfilled life without a partner.
For some of them, they are shunning marriage in favor of their career and the single life. They have allowed their sophistication and a career that fetch them mega bucks get into their head. While for some; they feel it is a burden having to live with a man who will order them around for the rest of their life.
For some of these women, it’s because of the fact that age is no longer on their side, and as a woman grows older, the pool of male attention dwindles. So now that time is no longer on their side, they would rather reach for certainty (using a sperm bank), than continue to draw blanks with uncertainty, as they wait for another relationship that may never come. And with divorce on the increase, the marriage institution is no longer attractive as before to this current generation.
Initially, what most super single babes did was to look for an old boyfriend that can get them pregnant. The guy, most time, is also usually married and obviously there won’t be commitment. But this became complicated as a result of the boyfriend’s wife getting to know about the child outside, and crisis setting in.
The next thing they also do is to date men, but right at the back of their mind, they don’t want to settle down with these men, all they just want is to get pregnant and not interested in settling down with the father of their child or him taking responsibility. But nowadays, most men are also beginning to see through them, so most eligible bachelors who are dating these ladies will never have unprotected sex in as much as they are not ready to have a child out of wedlock.
So what these ladies have resolved to do is to look for sperm donors and with this, it becomes less complicated. In Nigeria the sperm donors/sperm bank are made available at most of the Fertility Centers in the country.
Obviously, before a woman decides to go this route of getting a donor specimen from a sperm bank, she would have fully explored the pool of men around her.
The male donates his sperm knowingly or unknowingly to fertilize the lady who wants to have a baby of her own. The sperm donor is actually paid good money for this service. And she has a child of her and nobody bats an eyelid. Most women who use the sperm bank option, are often older single women who have tried all natural methods they know to become a mother, but have come up short every time. And with this arrangement, there is no conjugal arrangement between the mother and the father of the baby and the woman has total control and responsibility on her child. And because the process is less complicated in as much as the woman has money to pay for the sperm donor service, more and more super single babes are now embracing this method as an alternative way of getting by with men.

Today more than ever men are shying themselves away from committing themselves to any long term marital relationships with women. And while many women continue to devise ways to get men to be committed to them, others are simply fed up and are giving up all hope on the issue of marriage. In times past men begin to consider marriage soon after graduating from college, university, trade schools or apprenticeships and are gainfully employed. There was a time when weddings followed quickly on the heels of graduation. In fact a generation ago, couples could almost send out dual graduation/wedding announcements to save postage. That was when the average groom was 25 and the average bride, 20. Today, couples wait good longer years before they settle down. A lot of these big boys are in their 30s, some 40s, yet, they are not giving marriage a thought. One of the things that are very surprising is that, after been in a steady relationship for years, they are still not ready to settle down. Some of the women in their lives think they are not good enough for them, buy the guys have other reasons that they never shared with their partners. In this report, City People Fashion Editor, BOLA AKINBOADE brings you some of the reasons guys now prefer to be single.

Money plays a major role in marriage. It is one of the major sources of conflict in marriage. And with divorce rate of divorce been on the rise, most men do not want to make the mistake of believing that love covereth all things, with or without cash. And because of this financial insecurity, most eligible men are not ready to settle down until they are financially buoyant. And for a man who is still struggling and hustling, marriage will obviously be the last thing on his mind. Unlike before when marriages can be built on modest incomes, dependent on help from friends and family, today’s single men, however, dream big about their marriage’s financial foundation. The most important priority for singles guys these days is “getting set” financially, completing their education and getting a career established. Many guys now believe that owning a home in a good neighborhood, a good car or cars, a buoyant bank account is now a prerequisite to marriage and making kids. So most guys will continue to tarry on the issue of marriage in order to achieve this, which seldom come.

Men face little social pressure to get married because unlike in times past it is a lot easier for a man to get sex without having to say I do. Although the men delaying marriage, they are not putting off sex. Women can no longer effectively entice men with the promise of sex as an incentive for men to commit to them. This is because men can get sex (the number one reason why men married in the past) from a number of readily available sources, in many cases with no strings attached. The disconnect between sex and marriage cannot be overestimated as a reason guys are staying single so long. The traditional route to sexual fulfillment via marriage once served to compel men to temper their desire for freedom and commit to one woman and any children that resulted has been over abused in recent times. Now that sex is often available without expectations of marriage, men have lost a foundational reason to commit.

Today’s single guys seem to be expecting a “perfectly perfect” lady for wife. The idea of, “to attract the best, you must be best” yourself is not in their dictionary. Expectations for a marriage partner are now over the top. Most men believe that there is a special person, a soul mate, waiting for them somewhere out there, and they would find that special one by the time they are ready to get married. Their view of a soul mate has been diluted by self-centered cultural expectations. For one thing, our culture leads us to fixate on external images and to expect a mate with no flaws. These days, most guys look out of the corner of their eye for this perfect soul mate that will automatically compliment their life.

Another reason why some men delay marriage is fear of losing out of the fun they used to get as a single guy, such as their flings with different women, hanging out with friends till late in the night and all that. So guys are extremely reluctant to make commitments, or even to take any steps that might lead to commitment. This is why, when a guy goes out on a date with a woman and finds himself really liking her; he often will demonstrate his affection but will still be avoiding any commitment to her for the rest of his life. And most women are puzzled by this and can’t seem to understand his change in attitude towards them. The reason is that the guy has realized that if he takes her out again, he'll probably like her even more, so he'll take her out again, and eventually they'll fall in love with each other, and get married.

Men dread the possible consequences in the likely event the relationship does not work out. The emotional suffering caused by a break up could be devastating to men, but they express more concern for the risk of financial losses they may suffer if and when confronted with divorce proceedings.

It is men's nature to delay anything that can cause drastic changes to their lives. And although men have always been aware of the changes that marriage brings, they accepted them as part of the territory; "when a man marries, his troubles begin." And most men are not ready to leave their comfort zones for a life of responsibility, compromise and sacrifice. By their own admissions, this is the life they believe awaits them whenever they decide to take what they consider the final plunge and settle down.

Most of the time; most guys don’t know what to choose, as most men double date and don’t believe in putting their eggs in one basket. It will be difficult to see a man that will be committed to just a lady. Most of the time, men keep multiple relationships, so that before they make the final decision, they want to be sure they are making the best possible choice.

Most guys also delay marriage because they’ve got other priorities. Many guys want to finish courses in college or graduate school first. Others would like to earn a promotion at work, or start a small business successfully. And still some guys would like to earn enough to buy their own house, car, gargets and other properties. These guys think that a marriage could hamper their plans, because then they’d have to share everything with their partner.

Why some men are also not ready to settle down is the fact that they don’t see themselves with one sex partner forever. The fear of sticking to one partner has made some of them to delay marriage. Some men successfully get through this thought and make their marriages work out, but others just haven’t had the courage to do away with their army of bedmates.

There are lots of stories on several reasons why marriages are not working plus the various problems associated with it, and this in a way has also affected a lot of making decision and settling down. Most guys have been listening to too many stories. His best friend got married, but is now chained to a non-stop nagger. His boss is married and is philandering, and casually tells him that all married guys do it. Guys in his social club either are divorced, or having marriage issues. And then, there’s the friend of the cousin of the colleague’s uncle whose troubled marriage caused him to go crazy. All these stories are a major stumbling block for men these days.

Most guys are also not ready to let go of their freedom. He isn’t ready. He is not ready to stay home with one person and help out in the kitchen when he wants to go out and hang out with his friends. He’s not ready to lose freedom over what he eats, because he knows his wife will be preparing those healthy meals that don’t really appeal to him. He’s not ready to give up weekend guys activities to be beside his wife. These days, most guys are not just ready and willing to kiss their single days goodbye forever. They want to enjoy single life as long as they can.

Some men are dealing with related unresolved issues. His parents probably divorced when he was a kid, and he had a difficult time growing up with a broken family. Or, a close member of his family was married once, and it turned out badly, ending up in a brutal divorce. These life-changing events can cause anyone a great deal of trauma. They are like ghosts from his past. And for men like these, they would always have mixed feeling or reaction anytime the subject marriage crops up.

These generation is battling with a stiff competition between men are women. Women are even out there more than the men, and on top of the career. Gone are those days that a woman have to wait for a man to fulfill her needs, these days, they do all they want by themselves. They have suddenly become a threat to most eligible bachelors who are easily intimidated by their success. In as much as no man like a woman who is going to be a liability to them, or a woman who sit back and wait for their men to fill every aspect of their lives. They still want a woman they can lord over her and still under him. But these days, a lot of eligible ladies are super independent.

These days, most men are also battling with the challenge of finding a descent woman that genuinely loves them. A lot of women are entering marriage for the wrong motives and most smart guys can see through them. Most ladies are just after these men pocket and what they can gain from them, or how they can solve particular problem in their lives or just to bear ‘Mrs…….’

These days, more and more super single babes find it difficult to get a life partner. The rate of single babes who are over 30 and are still single is very alarming. It can be frustrating and worrisome when a lady is materially and psychologically ready for marriage but the only thing missing is the right partner. And at this age, most ladies lose their self esteem and courage and tend to see themselves as inadequate or undesirable, which has made some of these ladies to settle for any man that is far below their standard. Some may even attribute their single status to a spiritual battle especially when they have prayed for a partner and nobody seems to be coming.
To a large degree, heartbreaks and disappointments in life have been responsible for people especially ladies remaining single at a certain age when they are expected to be engaged or married. While the fact that most men are also not ready to settle down is another bigger challenge, so out of desperation, some of these ladies have fallen into the wrong hands of men who swindle them of their money and asset as they profess undying love to them. In this report, City People Fashion Editor, BOLA AKINBOADE presents to you some of the reasons why ladies are still single, plus the desperate measures they take.

One of the reasons why more and more babes remain single is the fact that most of the eligible men are not ready to settle down as they are still struggling and hustling to make ends meet. Studies have revealed that the society favors women more than men. Most of the time, it takes a little time for a serious minded woman to get to the top of her career than her male counterparts. It’s easy for a woman to strike a business deal, as they melt people heart easily and there is this attraction for them, unlike their male counterpart. Women also tend to get employed shortly after they graduate than men, and begin their career immediately. And that is why today, taking a survey at the top of most companies in Nigeria, you will find women holding key position in these companies with a fat take home pay. And due to this factor, and because the men are not at the level they want or not financially buoyant, marriage will definitely be the last thing on their mind. The fact that the standard and cost of living in the country keeps increasing everyday will make any hustling man take a second thought towards marriage.

Ask any lady that is still single at 30 and she will tell you her heartbreak experience is somehow attributed to her marital status. Some were sure of their relationship leading to marriage until their partner suddenly broke up with them at the eleventh hour. Some can therefore trust any man because of their past experience, and some are not getting advances from men because they are looking miserable and gloomy as a result of hurts and pains they have not been healed of.

For some of these women, one of the reasons why they are still single is the fact that they throw themselves into their work and find no time for socializing and relationships. This has affected a lot of women, and before they know it, they are close to 40 and time is really against them. The thing is, more and more singles are delaying marriage in pursuit of career. In the past, women marry in their early 20s. If you were to marry in your mid-20s, it is considered old. But now, many women are still not married by the time they are in their 30s. A lot of times, it is because these women are so focused on building their career in the early part of their life. And when they finally decide to settle down, they discover that it is not as easy to find a partner in their 30s as opposed to when they are in their 20s.

For some of these women, their successful profile and status can actually work against them making it difficult to find a man. This is because their success pose as a threat to any man who does not measure up to them (unfortunately few men who are within their age range are in that same level with them), so inferiority complex also sets in and
the men get easily intimidated by the success of the women, maybe the lady is very rich, and has a good car and all that and he might not have any. So he might feel intimidated.

Another factor working against the super single babes is the fact that they have limited choices available. Because of their age bracket, most men that will be able to meet up with their standards will be either married men, divorced, or widow. Because for them, age is not on their side, except for some of them who do not mind settling with a younger man in as much as the love and respect is there.

For some women, because they are already so successful, its becomes so difficult for them to date any man, they become too picky. These set of women have high standards and play too hard to get. And they have high expectations that men cant meet up to. And some of these women have the picture of their ‘ideal man’ and not ready to compromise their standards. By doing that, they shut their mind to the other men that do not fit into the picture of what they want, which makes it even more difficult for them to settle down as they are still waiting for their Prince Charming.

Some women are also too independent and uncontrolable, and this makes them difficult for any man to control them, or even attracted to them. Some of these upwardly mobile career women who have it all career-wise feels nothing for relationships. Some of these women feel they need to be independent, therefore, they work hard at achieving a career for themselves which affects their dating life. These women see marriage as loss of freedom, because of the belief that once you are married and settled down with kids, you have to give up on those things that you are passionate about, if not, the homefront will be affected. And because these women are self sufficient and do not need a man, its also difficult for a man to also put up with them.

The challenge of finding a decent man who is loyal and hardworking is another challenge women face these days. A lot of the men out there are too eager to make money and they will go at any length to make money. This can be traced to the emergence of ‘Yahoo Boys’ in town right now, the like to live large, but work less. So some of them are into illegitimate businesses that most women cant put up with. Other men who are ‘Gigolo’ tend to milk any woman who falls into their trap. They profess superficial love, and out of desperation and inability of the women to see through them, they fall madly inlove with these set of guys. And because their target are always successful and financially bouyant women, they begin to deman unresonably from the woman who gives out of love. And when they have milked the woman dry, they move on to the next victim. Other habits that pisses ladies off are smoking and drinking heavily which is becoming more and more common among the men.

Others cant find a decent guy because guys their age look for girls in their early 20s, not 30s.Men in their 30s cannot successfully date their age mates as most women who fall in this age bracket are very career focused or focused on just making it in life hence are very much equal to their men making it difficult to create a strong relationship bond (You know men and their ego and about who wears the pants in the relationship). The men therefore then opt for much younger girls in their early 20s who may not be interested in getting married in the short term. This makes most single women in their 30s stuck with flings, or dating younger men with zero marriage prospects.

Most ladies who start up early in their lives dating married men rather than single guys usually get stuck later in life. This is because they would have wasted their time with these men, who obviously won’t be settling down with them. But for most of these ladies, they have access to financial support as the married men spoil them silly with the good things of life. These ladies want to ride exotic cars, live in posh apartments, enjoy business connection, good jobs, etc. and before they realize it, time will catch up on them and the search for them to find a single man to settle down with becomes difficult.

Some ladies are still on the waiting list because they are looking for Mr. Right. Some women have refused to commit unless they find a man with whom they feel a deep, romantic love for, despite the fact that they are even in their 30s. They believe in holding out for true love no matter how long it might take them. These set of women do not believe in settling for Mr Second best, as they strongly believe that that perfect man is out there, and before they realize it, time has gone. And they are now full of regret for turning down most of the marriage proposals.

Most of these super single ladies are becoming more and more desperate in their quest to settle down. They will go at any length these days just to change their status from single to married. The society and parental pressure is one of the reasons pushing the ladies, because despite a lady’s achievement in the society, family and society looks at her in a funny way. Women could become desperate due to societal values that tend to have more respect for married women than single women, the thought of not being able to have children at a certain age and the need for companion. The rate at which these ladies visit spiritual home is very alarming, while others have become regulars at the big crusades and deliverance meetings of some of the big churches in town. Some ladies don’t even wait for the men to propose again, once a guy just shows a little interest in them, they go all the way to start pampering the men, taking him out and spending heavily on him after which they propose. Others also woo the men by agreeing to foot the wedding bills. At this point, they do not care whether the man is financially buoyant. In as much as the man has vision and potentials, they are ready to walk down the aisle with him. Desperation has also made these women push themselves all out and always at any event or places that there is possibility for them to meet potential husband. Some people go as much as registering with match making agencies which have suddenly sprung up in Lagos to meet the needs of these men. Some of them pay a lot just to register with this agencies, who then try to match make them. While others join social network sites to find their dream man. They post their photographs and data and detailing the characteristics and traits they want in their man.

Nordica Boss, Dr Abayomi Ajayi explains why infertility is on the rise. According to him, “Infertility has always been a serious matter even in biblical times. We remember someone who says give me a child, or I die. So infertility has always been a serious problem, whether 5 years, 10 years, it’s the same. It’s the people who feel it who know it. And the magnitude of the problem, I don’t think it has change in the last 10 years. The number of people or the proportion of people who have infertility has always been with us in the last 35 years, about one in 4-5 couple. So I don’t think the magnitude has change, maybe the composition might be changing. For instance, we know that the male factor infertility is on the rise, that we know, because we can deduce from other places where statistics are well kept. We can also say that the treatment of infertility is better now, and therefore people now have confidence in coming forward for treatment.
You know when you look at a man and a woman, a woman is emotional, the man is logical. But the day, the man sees the reason to do whatever, you will now know that he knows how to do it more than women
The same thing with even medical treatments, if a man is still not sucked in, he does not believe what is been done, he wont come. But when he now sees that this thing makes sense, he will come.
The causes of male infertility have not change. Infection is one thing we still look at. But in other part of the world which I think Nigeria is also not an exception, people are looking at environmental factors now. You know, before, when we started talking about male infertility, many people where saying it’s genetic, that is the way some people are just born. They were looking inside. But now, people are beginning to see that, the way this thing is going, it seems as if it’s an external thing which we need to look at. Of course, the one that might be internal, which is still external is your lifestyle. There is no doubt now that people are turning so much finger to lifestyle factors and environmental factor as a cause of the scourge of the male infertility
One of the reasons why it’s on the rise has to do with lifestyle and the environment that we now live in, talking about global warming and industrialization. All the places people were living before has been converted to shops and all kinds of things. Petrol station here and there and there is lead in petrol, many of us are adding weight and the more you add weight, the more the sperm count also reduces. Diet also plays another major role. Those are the things we need to pay attention to, to prevent male infertility

A cold war is presently brewing between top makeup artist, Eni Balogun and Oriyomi Onebanem over the use of pictures of Eni Balogun’s work.
Eni Balogun is one of the leading makeup artists in the country. She is the CEO of Lise Makeover outfit and Lise Beauty range. She is also the president of PCMAN. She has been immersed in the world of Makeup Artistry for over 11 years, and she is still going on strong. Her early commitment in the business started at the age of 16. Her makeup interest had evolved into something far beyond her expectatations. Over the years, Eni has mastered the skills and expertise that place her at the top of her game in the makeup industry. She has attended a number of fashion /makeup schools and events both locally and internationally. She has also worked with some notable photographers, fashion designers, fashion stylist and coordinators and even has quite a number of celebs as her clients.
The top makeup artist is presently fighting an Ibadan based makeup artist, Oriyomi Onebanem, the brain behind Oge Concept over the unauthorized use of pictures of her work. Oge Concepts is one of the latest entrants in the industry. She started Oge Concepts in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital about a year ago, and specializes in hair, nails and makeup. She shuttles between Ibadan and Abeokuta, and her makeup business has taken her to other part of the countries.
The picture which is the bone of contention is mounted as a big Sign Post in front of Oge Concepts’ shop located at Obafemi Awolowo Road, Ibara Abeokuta, by Government House, which is also included in her portfolio.
And because of this, Eni is not finding it funny with Oge Concepts whom she sees as ripping her off her sweat. In Eni’s case, she wasn’t even aware that this picture has been out there. The first time she heard it that someone was using her pictures to pull off jobs, was towards the end of last year but she didn’t take it serious. It was one of her friends that told her, but still she was sure. Not until recently when her cousin called her and asked her if she gave any of her students (makeup artists trained by her) the permission to use her pictures, and she said no. That was when she knew she had to act first. The bride in the picture is actually her bride, and most people close to Lise Studio are familiar with that picture and it has been associated with her over the years. Her friend actually confronted Oge Concepts when she was the picture and she denied, saying that all the works in her portfolio and banner were done by her and that she never used anyone pictures. A couple of weeks back, Eni also sent some people to take a picture of the Sign Post that had the picture boldly displayed, for confirmation, and when they were taking the pictures, she just came to open the shop and was confronted. But ever since then, she has not pulled down the picture.
City People also spoke to Oge Concepts and was asked how and why she decided to use someone’s picture and take credit for a job that is not hers. She answered; “I got the picture from Wedding Planner Magazine and that’s the only picture that I have. And I used it just for the shop outside banner. I don’t have it on my business card or other promotional items. The truth is that I don’t even know the person. It was all a mistake. When I was setting up the shop, I wasn’t around; I didn’t even want to use any picture, I told the guy who created the sign post to use pictures of just makeup line. So it was the guy that used the picture from the Wedding Planner Magazine”.
Obviously, Wedding Planner gives credit to any makeup job displayed in their magazine, why did she go ahead to use the picture considering the fact that it is a competitive industry. She answered, “Its wasn’t my fault. The guy was just trying to bring out the best and he obviously does not know Eni Balogun or Lise Makeover Studio. It was just something he created and approved when I saw it, and never know it was going to generate this controversy. Honestly, it’s not a deliberate action.”
But you have been using this picture to get jobs in Abeokuta, she said, “Oge Concepts is a Salon, Nails and Makeup outfit, under one umbrella, but to be honest with you, I do more hair and nails in Abeokuta, as Abeokuta people can’t pay for makeup. The only time I get jobs is from people that know me already and also know that I’m into makeup. Most of the jobs I do are even outside Abeokuta.”
Eni has also taken legal measures as regards this incidence. And as Professional Certified Makeup Artist in Nigeria (PCMAN) member, she has referred the case to their lawyer who is currently following legal proceedings to make sure that justice is achieved.
This is not the first time Eni is facing this situation, she has had similar occurrence in the past. And the fact that it’s a regular occurrence is getting a lot of professionals frustrated.
Eni is not the only top makeup artist that has been in this kind of dilemma as there are couple of top makeup artists who have pictures of their work taken up by new makeup artists. It’s becoming more and more common to see new makeup artist using experts’ jobs to pull jobs for themselves pretending that they did it. It will be recalled that Banke Meshida Lawal, also had this same problem couple of years back when an upcoming makeup artists also got the pictures of her works from her website and used it to get jobs. That is one of the issues, PCMAN is trying to curb to bring back sanity to the makeup industry.

The much talked about, biggest fashion event in Nigeria – ARISE Magazine fashion week has come and gone but the memorable events it brought along with will be something to talk about for a long while.
The highly expected event scheduled to start Thursday, March 10, 2011 began on a rather poor note. Although the event was billed to start at 9am with press accreditations, it was delayed until 6pm. The patient Nigerian journalists were eventually given entry passes to the event. It was really an African event closely sticking to ‘African time’!
There was actually no show on the first day, which was contrary to the schedule of events. The organisers were quick to apologize for the delay, explaining that all hands were on deck to put every necessary thing in place for the prestigious event.
50 of the top designers selected from around Africa including Chichia, NKWO, Jewel by Lisa, Deola Sagoe, Christie Brown, Samantha Cole, Ituen Bassey, Tiffany Amber, Mimi Plange, Bestow Elan and a host of others, used the first day to settle down and put in last minute details for the show as well as the models.
The show finally began on Friday, March 11, 2011 with a beautiful display of creative collections from House of Nwocha. Nwocha’s use of African fabrics with a fusion of satin, mercury and silk was a lovely sight to behold as the models strutted the runway elegantly in the collection. It was indeed a lovely way to open the show!
In this glamorous fashion week, it was thrilling to see how each of these designers played with our African fabrics such as ankara, lace, aso oke, kente and adire fused with either satin, chiffon, corduroy or silk. It was amazing to see so many innovations, creative designs on the runway with very daring, fierce and electrifying models that really made the event worth waiting for!
After three days of seeing 52 creative displays from various designers, the chain of events was brought to an end by a befitting closing ceremony.
The night, which was hosted by R&B sensation Darey Art Alade and CNN, BET and NBC TV presenter Lola Ogunnaike, started with a runway presentation by top South African fashion label Black Coffee and was followed by a sterling performance from the young singer Mo’Cheddah who wore a stunning Re Bahia dress.
The 2011 ARISE Magazine Fashion Awards were presented by former Miss Nigeria Helen Prest Ajayi, business mogul Alhaji Aliko Dangote and a visibly pregnant super model Oluchi Onweagba Orlandi.
Finally, a spectacular performance by British-Nigerian music star, Tinie Tempah ended the show.

The hit Broadway musical about the life and music of Nigerian
performer and political activist Fela Anikulapo-Kuti is scheduled to
be performed in his home town of Lagos, Nigeria making it the first
Broadway show to be performed in Sub-Saharan Africa.
FELA!, the landmark Broadway musical, which won three Tony Awards
(Broadway’s highest honor) including Best Choreography (Bill T.
Jones), is coming to Lagos from April 20th to 25th. It will be
performed at the prestigious Eko Hotel’s New Expo Centre, Victoria
Island, Lagos, Nigeria. This critically lauded musical will star its
original Broadway cast with Sahr Ngaujah reprising his Tony-nominated
role of Fela Kuti with music provided by the internationally renowned
Antibalas as well as other members of the New York City Afro-beat
Concurrently with the Broadway production, FELA! opened and triumphed
at London’s Royal National Theater for a three-month sold-out run.
That production was nominated for three Olivier Awards, London
theatre’s highest honor, including Best Musical, Best Actor (Sahr
Ngaujah) and Best Choreography (Bill T. Jones). This Nigerian
engagement will be the first since the closing of the Broadway and
London productions and the NTLive performance which was broadcast to
in 370 cinemas worldwide.
The aim of FELA! in Lagos is to unite and connect Africans in spirit
and unity, to serve as a catalyst for cultural revival in Nigeria, and
to celebrate Fela Kuti, for the contribution he has made to Nigeria
and the world. FELA! depicts the true story of the legendary Nigerian
musician Fela Kuti, whose soulful Afro beat rhythms ignited the spirit
of empowerment and cultural awareness in a generation. It is a tale
of courage, passion and love featuring Kuti’s captivating music and
the visionary direction and choreography of Tony Award winner, Bill T.
Jones. FELA! in Lagos is being produced by a Nigerian production
company, Broken Shackles in conjunction with Lagos State Government.
Upon its Broadway opening Ben Brantley of The New York Times wrote,
“There should be dancing in the streets. The hot (and seriously cool)
energy that comes from the musical gospel preached by the title
character of Fela! feels as if it could stretch easily to the borders
of Manhattan and then across a river or two. There has never been
anything on Broadway like this production." The New York Post’s
Elisabeth Vincentelli cheered, “There’s enough energy to short circuit
Con Ed.” David Cote of Time Out New York, in giving it 5 stars (out
of 5) raved, “Fela! is more than a musical; it’s an ecstatic
phenomenon." And Jennifer Farrar from the Associated Press exclaimed,
“An exuberant celebration!”
The English critics were equally effusive after the London premiere of
FELA! One critic, Baz Bamigboye of The Daily Mail, summed up the
critical sentiment with his review saying FELA! is a “groundbreaking
show that shook Broadway and London’s Royal National Theatre to the
rafters. Getting Brits to get on their feet and ‘get loose’ as Bill T.
Jones puts it, was a rare feat. FELA! pulled it off by sheer
exuberance and theatrical showmanship. At the same time, FELA!
explored the soul of an artist and the darkness of a government that
tried to block what Fela’s beam exposed.”
In addition to rave reviews from critics, FELA! has also won numerous
awards and received standing ovations from such personalities as Mick
Jagger, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, Spike Lee, Ben Okri, Janet
Jackson, Denzel Washington, Professor Wole Soyinka, Robert De Niro,
and Hugh Jackman. First lady Michelle Obama, former UN Secretary
General Kofi Annan and President Obama’s Head of Homeland Security
Janet Napolitano are but three of the dignitaries who have embraced
this show.
Bill T. Jones, director and choreographer of FELA!, was recently
honored with the prestigious Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts
award along with Sir Paul McCartney and Oprah Winfrey. The Kennedy
Center Honors are awarded annually for exemplary lifetime achievement
in the performing arts. FELA! also won two Astaire Awards for its cast
and choreography.
FELA! on Broadway was conceived by Bill T. Jones, Jim Lewis and
Stephen Hendel. Its producers include the entertainment legends Shawn
“Jay-Z” Carter and Will & Jada Pinkett Smith.
A spokeswoman for Broken Shackles suggests that “with a series of
media partners and sponsorships, FELA! in Lagos will be the most
talked about show in Nigeria for years to come. We have created
sponsorship, branding and advertising opportunities for those who wish
to be a part of this historic theatrical event.”
