FORBES RELEASES ITS ANNUAL LIST OF WORLD’S MOST POWERFUL WOMEN

Forbes has released its list of 100 most powerful women yesterday 22nd May 2013. According to Forbes, the list is made up of 100 women who made the most impact. The list comprises of women from all spheres of the globe including politics, entertainment, fashion, media, technology etc.

·         Angela Merkel, Germany Chancellor is no. 1 

·         Ngozi Okonjo Iweala (no. 83) is the only Nigeria on the list 

·         Lady Gaga, who  is  27 years old is the youngest on the list  (no.47)

·         Followed by Beyonce (no.17) and Gisele Bundchen (no.95) who are 31 and 32 years respectively

·         There are 9 presidents/world leaders on the list: Angela Merkel, Germany Chancellor (no. 1), Dilma Rousseff, President Brazil  (no. 2), Geun-Hye Park, President, South Korea (no.11), Kristina Fernandez de kirchner, President Argentina (no.26) , Julia Gillard, Prime Minister Australia, (no. 28), Yingluck Shinawatra, Prime Minister Thailand (no.31), Queen Elizabeth (no.40), Joyce Banda president Malawi (no.47) and Ellen Johnson Sirleaf,  President Liberia (no. 87)

·         Hollywood actresses Angelina Jolie and Sophia Vegera came in at number 37 and 38 respectively

·         Only 3 Africans were included: Okonjo Iweala, Sirleaf and Banda 

·         The fashion industry was not left behind. Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue (no. 41), Angela Ahrendts, chief executive officer of Burberry (no. 53), Miuccia Prada, owner of and designer at the Italian fashion house, Prada(no.58) and Sarah Blakely founder, Spanx (no.90)

·         Other notable personalities on the list are Hillary Clinton (no.5), Melinda gates (no.3) and Oprah Winfrey (no.13).
