President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Alhaji Ahmed Idris as the new Accountant General of the Federation (AGF). A statement signed by Mr. Haruna Imrana, the Director Communications, Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) on behalf of the OHCSF, Mr. Danladi Kifasi, said the appointment takes effect from June 25, 2015.

According to the statement, the new AGF who hails from Kano State, was born on Nov. 25, 1960, and was until his appointment, the Director of Finance and Accounts, Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development. Idris replaces Mr. Jonah Otunla, who was forced to retire from office following allegations of misappropriation of about N2.5 billion meant for security equipment at the Presidential villa.

Though Otunla had unsuccessfully lobbied to be retained in the position, he however maintains that his retirement was in line with civil service rules having hit the retirement limit.
