NEW OONI OF IFE, OBA ADEYEYE OGUNWUSI RECEIVES STAFF OF OFFICE FROM GOVERNOR AREGBESOLA

The new Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, officially commenced his reign on the throne on Monday following his receipt of staff of office from Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State at exactly 1:50 pm.

This makes him the 51st paramount ruler of Ile Ife, succeeding Oba Sijuwade who died in a London hospital on July 28, 2015

A brief statement issued from the Governor’s office on Monday noted that the kingmakers of Ife had completed all required processes and had communicated the choice of Prince Ogunwusi to the Governor for approval.

While presenting the staff of office to the newly-installed monarch, Aregbesola urged him to collaborate with the other chiefs and mobilise the people for the development of the ancient kingdom during his reign.

Oba Ogunwusi emergence as king came after a prolonged contest enmeshed in controversy. Before now, he was a prince from the Giesi Ruling House of the town.
