Brazilian football legend, Pele has married a third wife, Marcia Cibele Aoki, in a local ceremony in the South American country.

The 75-year-old three-time World Cup winner and global football icon, wed his 50-year-old girlfriend of six years at a small but stunning religious ceremony in Guaruja on the coast of Sao Paulo, Brazil

The pair were due to marry a couple of years ago but had to wait because of health problems to the ex-Brazil ace. The pair first met at a party in New York in the 1980s but only started dating in 2010 following a fluke meeting in a Sao Paulo elevator.

Pele told a Brazilian magazine in 2012 that they saw each other for the first time in nearly 30 years when they discovered they were living in the same apartment block. Marcia was in the middle of divorcing her husband at the time.

The Brazilian icon said: “Two years later we met each other again in the same elevator.

“I said I was renovating my apartment and Marcia, who was separated by then, invited me to see a home renovation she’d done.”

Pele had three children with his first wife – Rosimeri Cholbi – who he was married to for 12 years and two with his second, gospel singer Assiria Nascimento, who he was with for a further 14 years.

Japanese-born Marcia is the daughter of a paediatrician and a successful entrepreneur in her own right in the medical supplies sector.
