MEET THE NEW CHAIRMAN OF FEDERAL INLAND REVENUE SERVICE – MUHAMMAD NAMI

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the formation of a new Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) board and has named Muhammad M. Nami, a renowned tax consultant, as the new chairman subject to approval from the Senate.

The board is composed of a member from a select number of ministries and government agencies from each of the six geographical zones and legislative members.

Mr Muhammad Nami, a well-trained Tax, Accounting, and Management specialist with highly qualified credentials and professional practise and licences from relevant professional bodies, has nearly three decades of practical experience in Auditing, Tax Management and Advisory and Management services for clients in the finance, manufacturing, telecommunications and public sectors as well as non-profit organizations.

He is a specialist in providing stakeholders with strategic support services to new business start-ups and existing business management. He has also continuously provided outsourced services to customers in the nation’s economy’s finance, utility, and manufacturing sectors.

Muhammad Nami attended Kano University of Bayero and Bello University of Ahmadu, Zaria, where he received a B.Sc. in Sociology (1991) and a M.Sc. in Business (2004).

He is a fellow of Nigeria’s Chartered Tax Institute, Nigeria’s Institute of Debt Recovery Practitioners and Associate Member of the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered) and Nigeria’s National Accountants Association.

In 1993, he began his career with PFK and became a senior consultant in charge of Tax management and advisory services. He is currently the managing consultant of Manam Professional Services (Chartered Tax Practitioners and Business Advisers) based in Kaduna, Abuja and Niger State.

Mr. Muhammed has served and is still serving on the Statutory Board Audit Committee for many corporations and was appointed by President Buhari in November 2017 to serve on the Presidential Audit Committee for the Recovered Stolen Property.

According to Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity disclosed in a statement that the Chairman of FIRS, Babatunde Fowler, who was appointed to the post on Monday, December 9, 2019, is scheduled to hand over his term of office to the most senior director on the Board, who will take charge until approval is granted in the senate for the new board.
