OPRAH WINFREY FLOATS NEW SHOW TO HELP RESUSCIATE AILING OWN NETWORK

Oprah Winfrey is taking a dramatic step she hopes will pump some life into her ailing OWN network. The talk show queen, 57, is returning to the air in a new show called Oprah’s Next Chapter to be broadcast on the cable channel.
The series, which is set to début in January, will show the TV titan meeting and chatting with fellow celebrities in their homes.
The two-hour première will feature Winfrey meeting with Aerosmith front man and American Idol judge Steven Tyler at his family home in New Hampshire.
Tyler will discuss his drug addiction, his love life and his new-found fame on American Idol, OWN said in a statement released on Friday.
When Winfrey ended her iconic chat show after 25 years, she said her role at OWN would be strictly behind the cameras.
That hasn’t worked out as planned. The ratings at OWN have been so bad that Oprah is stepping in front of the cameras once again.
Her new show will also include an interview with Oscar winning actor Senn Penn about the recovery efforts in Haiti from the 2010 earthquake and a tour of Skywalker Ranch with Star Wars creator George Lucas.
In the OWN statement Oprah said: ‘After 25 years I got myself out of the studio chairs.
‘I moved into the next chapter, and I am having more fun than ever — moving around the country and the world talking to people I’m really interested in getting to know and I think viewers will be, too,’ she said.
Winfrey launched the Oprah Winfrey Network in January 2011 with a slate of programming she described as ‘uplifting.’
After disappointing ratings, Oprah took over as chief executive officer in July to refocus the channel’s direction and put more of herself on screen.
Oprah’s Next Chapter follows the October début of Oprah’s Lifeclass, in which she shared insights, life lessons and old clips from her 25-year talk show run.
