TRIBUTE TO LATE PROF. DORA AKUNYILI. HOW SHE DIED 6 WEEKS TO HER 60TH  BIRTHDAY

Spread the love

No doubt, Dora Akunyili,  former Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and former minister of Information will be missed by a lot of people. She passed on yesterdaySaturday, June 7, 2014  in an India Hospital where she has been receiving treatment, just 6 weeks to her 60th birthday.
In spite of her illness,a two-year battle with cancer, she was unwavering in her belief in a better Nigeria. That was why she defied her condition and was part of Anambra State Handover Committee and the National Conference.
Dora Akunyili can be described as  a woman of courage and extraordinary achievement, and her death is very saddening; it is a huge loss to Nigeria and the women folk. She was a devout Christian who dared where most men feared.
She had imbued and inspired many young people. She was honest, brilliant, hardworking, dogged, determined and well-focused. It was her doggedness that led to an attempt on her life once, because she was incorruptible not yielding to the whims and caprices of drug adulterators
Death is a necessary end, we shall miss her dearly, it is our prayer that God grant her soul eternal repose. Amen!
Prof. Dora Nkem Akunyili (OFR) was born in Makurdi, Benue State (Nigeria) on the 14th of July 1954 to Chief & Mrs Paul Young Edemobi. The internationally renowned Pharmacist, Pharmacologist, Erudite Scholar, Seasoned Administrator, and visionary leader, served Nigeria in numerous strategic positions including as Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and Federal Minister of Information and Communication. She is survived by her husband Dr. J. C. Akunyili, a Medical Practitioner, 6 children and 3 grandchildren.
